The two game modes of Battlefield 2 are Conquest and Cooperative. The difference between the two modes is that the collaboration involves computer-controlled players, allowing only Conquest human players. Results from Cooperative Mode do not count towards Global Player Statistics.

Plot

The game was set in 2007 during World War II between various power groups: the European Union and the United Kingdom were at war with Russia, China, and the fictitious Middle Eastern Alliance (MEC) with the help of various rebel groups. Although a theory to control oil reserves, there is no reason as to how or why the war took place. In the game, the European Union and the United States will face China and the MEC. It was mentioned in the game that the US and the EU are allies and the EU has an agreement with Russia, but it is not known whether China and the MEC are allies. The game takes place in different areas as the Middle East and China are occupied by US and EU forces, and the United States by Chinese and MEC forces.
