At most levels of the Brothers in Arms, the player leads one or two different 1-3 man teams, with the exception of several divisions where the player is not in command of any unit. There are two types of teams, which are provided automatically before each mission:

Fire Brigade: M1 Guard and Browning automatic rifle made for soldiers and used to deal with fire to suppress enemies.

Attack Team: Soldiers are usually made with M1A1 carbine and Thompson submachine gun and are good at encircling enemies while the player fire team pins the enemy.

In addition, some levels provide the player with a tank instead of a team, providing players with huge firepower and mobile cover. The player can maneuver the pint-mounted M1919 Browning machine gun on the tank for extra suppression.

Based on the true story of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) of the famous 101st Air Force, the Brothers in Arms fell behind the German lines in D-Day. The game’s historical mission is based on Albany, in which the player must complete missions based on the 101st true action in Normandy.

The game begins with Sergeant Matthew “Matt” Baker of the 502nd Infantry Regiment at the climax of the Battle of Bloody Gulch. The paratroopers stand desperately like Leget, making a manic request for the squad’s radioman tank support. Unable to raise support or reinforcements, the paratroopers’ condition worsened only when Panzer IV appeared and fired at them, knocking Baker down again.

Story of the game

The game returns to the opening jump off just hours before the Normandy landings. When the plane’s anti-aircraft fire broke out, Baker, along with the rest of the crew, was preparing to disembark from the C-47. Baker is thrown from the plane, though he loses his kit on the drop, although he lands safely. Despite being off course, the Mac-led team destroys several Flack 38 anti-aircraft guns using Satchel explosives. Early in the morning, BAR gunner Corporal Joseph “Red” Hartzack, a representative of McBaker, was able to find each other to clear an important road leading to Utah Beach. After fighting through several German soldiers, as well as a mortar team, Baker and Hartzak made contact with two other members of their team, Allen and Garnett.
